Hikawa Hakuho Peach is an early-maturing variety that captures the essence of summer. These peaches are loved for their beautiful shape, fragrant aroma, and incredible juiciness.
Weighing around 200-250g each, these peaches have a pleasing round shape that transforms into a slightly dark red hue as they ripen. The harvest season begins at the end of June and extends until the end of July, ensuring an ample time to enjoy these delightful fruits.
Hikawa Hakuho peaches inherit the best qualities from their parent variety, Hakuho. Their tender flesh is free from fibers, creating a soft texture that melts in your mouth. With a sugar content ranging from 11 to 13 Brix, these peaches offer a balanced sweetness that is simply irresistible.
If you plan to enjoy Hikawa Hakuho white peaches within a few days, it is recommended to refrigerate them. However, if you intend to consume them on the same day, store them at room temperature.
Do note that refrigeration can diminish their natural sweetness. Instead, put the fruit for 30 minutes to an hour in the fridge before consuming. Once adequately chilled, gently wash the peach with water and delicately peel the skin, aiming for a thin peel to retain the savoury layer just beneath.
As the sweetness is concentrated near the pit, relish the peach by slicing it vertically and indulging in its deliciousness. Peaches are delicate fruits, so it's crucial to store them at room temperature in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Avoid putting pressure or handling them vigorously, as this can cause damage.
Discover the remarkable origins behind Hikawa Hakuho peaches, originating from Yamanashi Prefecture, the premier peach-growing region in Japan. It was in Yamanashi City that Mr. Toshiyuki Tagusagawa uncovered this unique branch variety, which has been cultivated for 40 fruitful years.
Yamanashi Prefecture takes immense pride in its status as Japan's top peach producer, with Hikawa Hakuho accounting for more than half of all peach cultivation, surpassing other prefectures in sheer quantity.
The exceptional flavour of Yamanashi's Hikawa Hakuho peaches can be attributed to the region's ideal natural conditions. The Kofu Basin, cradled by mountains, creates a microclimate that shields the peaches from external weather influences. This results in dramatic temperature variations between day and night, along with the longest daylight hours in Japan, fostering optimal peach growth.
Furthermore, Yamanashi Prefecture holds a significant distinction as the birthplace of mineral water in Japan. The region's mountainous terrain yields an abundant supply of mineral-rich water, known as the "natural water pot," accounting for 40% of the total mineral water market share. This high-quality water, sourced from the bedrock, plays a vital role in cultivating Hikawa Hakuho peaches through the absorption of nutrients from fertile soil and pristine water.
