Kiss Melon

Sugar Kiss melons have a thick brown rind with a hazy green tinge, surrounded by a beige net. When cut open, they reveal the juicy flesh similar to other common melon varieties, but slightly stiffer to the touch. They smell of tropical floral aromas and are sweet with an average Brix value of 11.

STORAGE

When ripe, sugar kiss melons retain their quality much longer if stored in the refrigerator rather than at room temperature. As with any leftover fruit, the same applies here: The sooner you use it up, the better it tastes.

FUN FACTS & TIPS

Sugar kiss melons are eaten in the same way as other melon-like fruits. In Malaysia, they are often prepared raw, either sliced with a squeeze of lime or pureed into a juice-like drink. Sago, a tapioca-like starch, is made into a popular Malaysian delicacy with palm sugar and coconut cream. Rock melon or other tropical fruits are sprinkled over the dessert.
