The Shizuoka crown melon is the highest quality and most sought after premium fruit among the muskmelons. Each grower carefully packs the crown melon, which is then harvested in a single area. Only melons that meet the required standards are labelled with the crown badge. Experts check the freshness, sugar content, taste and ripeness of the melons. Only melons that have passed the strict checks are eligible for the badge. This ensures that they have a fragrant, honey-like musky scent, rich juicy flesh, a smooth taste and a silky texture.

  

STORAGE

Examine the exterior of the melon to determine whether it is well-proportioned and symmetrical, with no deformities, scratches, discolouration or flaws, regardless of whether it has a netted surface. Then you get a delicious and delectable melon. Also, the heavier the flesh feels, the thicker and juicier it is. Gently press the underside of the melon; if it feels soft, it is sufficiently ripe and may be eaten. Melons also taste better if they are cooled in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours before serving.

Shizuoka Crown Melon is grown exclusively in greenhouses, using advanced cultivation methods that are passed down from generation to generation. Not only is fertiliser carefully monitored and water supply to plants are timed, but there is also a "one tree, one fruit" policy that is essential for growing high-quality melons. After three fruits are grown on one tree, farmers carefully select one of the three so that all nutrients are concentrated on it. Farmers use all their efforts to cultivate the melons with compassion, as if they were taking care of their own children. Each melon has its own characteristics and no two are alike.
