Choy sum is a leafy vegetable composed of long, thick stems. It is commonly used in Chinese cuisines and has small yellow blossoms that look similar to Gai Lan and are edible, with a peppery, faint mustard flavour. Choy sum is a juicy, soft and crunchy vegetable with a sweet and sometimes bitter taste. Whether stir-fried, gently steamed or added to soups, this green leafy vegetable is an easy-to-prepare and healthy addition to many meals.

 

STORAGE

Yu Choy Sum has an extremely short shelf life and does not keep long at warm temperatures. Therefore, when you get home, the first thing you should do is put it in the refrigerator.

 

FUN FACTS & TIPS

A very simple and popular method of preparation is to blanch the Choy Sum in a large pot of boiling water for 30 seconds, then drain and set aside. Heat the oil in a prepared wok or deep pan and stir-fry the garlic and oyster sauce until fragrant. Then add the Choy Sum in the and stir for a minute.
