Shine Muscat grapes, a popular variety of skinned grapes and members of the Muscat family, have been introduced from Japan and extensively cultivated in Korea and China to increase the supply and lower prices while maintaining excellent quality. Among Asian fans, these aromatic varieties of table grapes have gained widespread popularity. China leads in the production of Shine Muscat grapes, with over 53,000 hectares dedicated to cultivation, while Japan currently grows approximately 1,200 hectares.
China's Muscat grapes are known for their sharp, snappy texture that matures into a smooth and delicious consistency, devoid of stringy fibers typically seen in other grape varieties. These grapes boast a high sugar content, averaging 18 Brix, and are recognised for their sweet, flowery flavour with tropical fruit, honey, mango, and musk characteristics. With over 200 varieties of grapes in the Muscat family, Shine Muscat grapes are a standout choice among wine grapes and are also used in the production of wines. This Muscat variety, also known as Muscat Hong Kong, is a favorite among grape enthusiasts for its unique and delightful flavour profile.
Shine muscat grapes will typically arrive properly wrapped in plastic and may be preserved up to one week when stored in the original packing in the refrigerator
Because muscat grapes seedless flesh and thin skin, they are best suited for raw uses. Grapes may be eaten as a standalone snack, served on fruit platters, or used as a garnish for desserts such as tarts, cakes, fruit parfaits, and ice cream. Muscat grapes from Japan may also be juiced and used to flavour gelato, fruit punches, cocktails, gummy candies, and shaved ice. In addition to fresh applications, various Japanese muscat grape varietals are widely used to produce light and aromatic sweet wines, and they are also dried into raisins for long-term storage. Japanese muscat grapes pair nicely with spicy, salty, sour, or bitter meals, such as curries, meats like prosciutto or salami, nuts like almonds, peanuts, and pecans, carrots, celery, cucumber, and cheeses like blue, goat, or brie.
