Chiku

Chiku has a distinct and delectable flavor that may be characterized as a blend of caramel, pear, and brown sugar. It has the soft and juicy texture of a well-ripened pear with a little gritty consistency. Chiku has a subtle sweetness that complements pastries, smoothies, and other sweet delicacies well.

STORAGE

Gently tear apart the skin of the fruit with your fingertips to extract the flesh. The flesh should easily separate from the big, black seeds. Spit out the seeds as you eat the fruit.

FUN FACTS & TIPS

Chiku are often eaten fresh, half with the seeds removed and simply scooped off the peel. The pulp is used to produce smoothies and shakes, as well as in a variety of dessert applications. Scooped Langsat flesh can be added to fruit or green salads, or combined with egg custard before baking. The pulp is pressed through a sieve, mixed with juice, and topped with whipped cream to make a sauce.
