Japanese Amela Tomatoes

Bred in Shizuoka in 1994, the Amela tomato is the highest quality of all tomatoes and one of the sweetest varieties grown on Japanese farms. They are so sweet that they have been called "fruit tomatoes" because people were in disbelief at how rich a tomato could be! Amela Tomatoes intense sweetness is offset by the tomato's natural savoury umami flavour. These concentrated flavours are achieved by the Amela Tomato not having access to water to maintain its amazing taste.

STORAGE

To protect the quality of Amela tomato, avoid direct sunlight and environments with excessive heat and humidity. Once opened, keep them refrigerated in the refrigerator and consume them as soon as possible.

FUN FACTS & TIPS

Although it is only one-third the size of a regular tomato, the sugar content and nutrients are concentrated inside. It is grown with the least amount of water. The result is a highly compacted and sugar-saturated flesh that is 1.5 times sweeter and more nutritious than other tomatoes.
